They are often overlooked in a garden but a wooden garden bench can be a great way to add a bit of subtle decoration to your garden while at the same time providing somewhere for people to sit.But what should you look for in a wooden bench and how much do they usually cost?
Wooden garden benches are ever popular because they can provide a timeless quality to a garden without costing a lot of money. When looking for a garden bench you should think carefully about how much you want to spend as this can make a big difference to which benches you could buy. For example a two seater bench can cost as little as £40 in some cases, but if you are going to go for a higher quality wood then something like an oak wooden bench will cost considerably more – around £300.
You also need to consider how big you want the bench to be. The standard sizes are 3 seats and 2 seats, although you can get bigger is that is what you want. You should also try and make sure the bench is as comfortable as possible by buying outdoor cushions to put on them. No one likes to sit on a wooden bench for too long without padding after all!

As the name suggests these provide extra storage for you in your garden by having a compartment underneath the seat and are great if you want somewhere to store your garden tools without having to go into the garage or shed every time.
If you are really adventurous you might want to consider making your own garden bench. While this might sound like a lot of work, it is actually not too difficult and means you can get a bench that is exactly the size and shape you want it. Most of us aren’t professional woodworkers so you will probably want to find some wooden garden bench plans and pick the one that suits you the best. There are plenty of examples online and I’m sure if yo looked hard enough you would be able to find a step by step tutorial.
For the ultimate in comfort you might want to buy a wooden garden swing bench. We have all seen these in the garden centres and even though they cost a bit more money they are very relaxing.
