It is no secret that at the moment here are a lot of endangered birds around the world. All of us can help in some way though in our back gardens. In this article I’ll be focusing on how you can help endangered birds in the UK using your garden.
It’s not just exotic birds that are becoming endangered. For example the number of house sparrows today is 60 percent less than there were a few years ago. You can help house sparrows by putting up bird boxes in your garden for nesting season. Some wildlife experts are advising that instead of putting up tit nesting boxes you should try sparrow ones instead to help the population to start growing again.
Aside from putting up nesting boxes and providing a variety of –food for the bids in your garden there are other smaller things you can do to help. For example if you let some ivy grow in you r garden there will be more bugs and insets for the birds to eat. Ivy is also a good nesting spot for birds such as wrens so you’ll be doing lots of birds a favour by letting it growl. Another thing you can do is allow part of your lawn to grow long as well as providing a bare patch of ground for the birds to find worms. Both of these will help the local birds in different ways.
There are many birds that are endangered in the UK. For example House sparrows, starlings and robins are all in decline, House sparrows are actually reaching a critical level especially in built up areas. Anything you can do to help them by providing nesting areas and good will be of great benefit to them. Remember that different birds like different nesting spots and food though so make sure you know which birds you are trying to help and exactly what they need.
