There are two major problems with window bird feeders. The first is that if you aren’t careful you’ll have birds flying straight into the window all the time because it can be difficult for them to see the glass. The other problem is that it takes a very brave bird to come right down to the house so you need to be to build up their trust. In this article I’ll be talking about a few different steps that you can take to make sure that you have birds coming down to your window bird feeder and hence solve the second problem.
The first thing you need to do is make sure the birds trust that the birdfeeder will provide a solid quality of food. To do that you should try and put your window birdfeeder well away for the house to begin with so that the birds get used to the feeder and trust it will provide them with a good quality food on a regular basis. You need to make sure that you regularly top up the birdfeeder so that they know they can always get food from there.
One other thing to remember is that you must buy squirrel proof window bird feeders if you want to make sure that your feed is not carried away by marauding squirrels!
Once the birds start to use the birdfeeder then you can gradually start to move nearer and nearer the house. Again you always need to make sure that you keep a regular supply of food so that the birds know that they can get a meal.
If you find that the birds won’t come any closer than leave it there for a little bit longer before moving closer again. Eventually you should be able to put the feeder on the window and the birds will trust the feeder enough to know that they can get a meal there safely.
